By The Monkey Puzzle Tree in Collaboration with Print Maker Alexis Snell
The Monkey Puzzle Tree collaborated with Alexis Snell to create ‘How the Leopard Got His Spots’ velvet fabric. Featured in Elle Decoration, Homes and Gardens and Real Homes Magazine. This maximalist jungle velvet can be used for upholstery, curtains or blinds.Â
Alexis uses linocut to create strange and angular creatures, as if emerging from a fairytale. The print remains irregular to recreate the hand-made quality of linocut. If you look closely, there are 18 different leopards climbing throughout the jungle.Â
“I like things that are a bit dark and strange and I’m always drawn to a good story. A flea market, a late night drunken conversation, an old advert or a matchbox might get me thinking about a new idea. I love working in lino. I once heard someone say there is no room for hesitation or apology in lino cutting and I think that the fact you have to be brave and just go for it appeals to me.” – Alexis Snell
